Verstappen dismisses claims of power struggle at Red Bul

AUSTIN, October 20 – Max Verstappen on Thursday dismissed reports of a power struggle between Red Bull team boss Christian Horner and special advisor, motorsport veteran Helmut Marko.

He said the claims were unfounded and the group had no plans to change.
The newly appointed three-time world champion said in Austin ahead of the US Grand Prix:

“From the outside, everyone is basically trying to talk ‘BS’.
“The atmosphere in the team is very, very good and everyone knows exactly what their role is. »

Referring to the death last year of Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, who appointed Marko, 80, to his position at the team, the 26-year-old Dutchman added:

“Of course, that was a sad time last year when Dietrich passed away.
“But we’ve tried to maintain that legacy, build on it, and everyone we have on the team now is important to the success that we are having.

“That’s why there’s no change going forward and I think that basically explains it.”

Marko has been appointed as a motorsport consultant reporting to the Red Bull company and is not a direct employee of the racing team.
He affirms that he will be the one to decide his own future. —AFP
