How this LIV golfer earned $18 million for finishing second

Talor Gooch didn’t win LIV Jeddah this weekend, but he still walked away with a big payday.

Despite the playoff loss to Brooks Koepka, Gooch’s second-place finish in the Mideast put an end to a career year. In the 2023 season, the 31-year-old racked up three wins and a second place, good enough to become LIV Golf’s season individual champion.

“It’s special,” Gooch said. “I always thought I was good enough to become a professional golfer and compete with the best golfers in the world. Now, to be here and I think I’m one of the best in the world, it’s something I’ve dreamed of since I was 9 years old. To reach this point in my career and have the confirmation of a season, well, words cannot describe how meaningful and satisfying it is.

By winning individual points races throughout the season, Gooch took home a huge prize money of 18 million dollars. This amount is almost double his career winnings on the PGA Tour, or $9,250,299.

“Man, this is amazing,” Gooch said. “From January 1st until now, this is what we’ve worked for, so to get here and be champions, man, I’m proud, I’m honored and I’m excited. encourage.”

Gooch entered the final event of the season behind Cameron Smith and Bryson DeChambeau in the season standings, but his second place was enough to surpass them both. Smith finished T24 to secure second place in the season standings, while DeChambeau’s T11 performance dropped him to fourth. With his second win of the year, Koepka climbed to third place.
