Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy sign 3 PGA Tour stars to join rival LIV Golf league

The Tech Golf League (TGL) will launch in 2024 and the project led by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy has announced the latest additions to its roster, including a major champion.

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s Tech Golf League (TGL) launches in just a few months and the innovative project has revealed the latest additions to its roster.

TGL, which will see golf played in a dedicated TV studio featuring simulators as well as dynamic driving and hitting areas, already boasts a line-up of the biggest stars of the PGA Tour, including Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele. .

Three new names were added to the list on Wednesday: Keegan Bradley, Cameron Young and Sahith Theegala. Bradley, the 2011 PGA Championship winner, has long been a fan favorite on tour, while Young and Theegala are two of the sport’s rising stars. participated in the tournament. The tournament – a joint venture between Woods and McIlroy under the TMRW Sports banner – currently has 19 players registered, with five additional spots to fill. The original plan was for six teams of three players to compete each week in TGL, but teams will now have four designated players, with one player eliminated each week. No LIV Golf players participated.

Four teams have been announced:
Los Angeles Golf Club, Boston, Atlanta Drive Golf Club and New York. The Los Angeles-based team is owned by the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, along with Serena’s husband, Reddit founder and billionaire Alexis Ohanian, while Premier club owner Fenway Sports Group League Liverpool – owns the Boston football team. With five players yet to be revealed, the biggest names on the PGA Tour yet to be joined by TGL are world number one Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth. Both men are based in Texas, and with TGL based in an arena in Florida, that might not be logistically appealing.

TGL premieres January 9 and will air live weekly in primetime on ESPN. The tournament will take place at the SoFi Center, a purpose-built arena in Palm Beach Gardens, with 15 regular season games to be played before the playoffs.

Players have yet to be added to the team, but Bradley, 37, is extremely popular in his home state of Massachusetts, making him the prominent face of the Boston franchise. Theegala, 25, stars in Netflix docuseries Full Swing and achieved cult status after emerging on tour in 2022, narrowly missing out on victory at the Waste Management Open. The Californian came close to victory multiple times before finally reaching the milestone last month when he won the Fortinet Championship.

Meanwhile, Young is still waiting for his first PGA Tour win, but he has been extremely impressive in the majors. The 26-year-old finished second at the Open and PGA Championship in 2022 and was seventh at the Masters in April.

TGL boss Mike McCarley said: “These are three excellent paymasters who will bring a competitive fire to any TGL team. “Keegan is known in the golf community as a formidable competitor and a lover of team golf, while Cam and Sahith are quickly becoming fan favorites as two of the younger players the most talented in the sport.”
