Red Bull director Helmut Marko puts pressure on Sergio Perez ahead of negotiations with Christian Horner

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner recently revealed that he wanted to speak to Sergio Pérez after his poor performance in Qatar.

Red Bull director Helmut Marko has put more pressure on Sergio Pérez after his disappointing performance at the Qatar Grand Prix. The Mexican driver scored just one point in Sunday’s race, then also crashed in Saturday’s sprint race and ultimately gave teammate Max Verstappen the title.

Verstappen winning a third consecutive drivers’ title has been a foregone conclusion for weeks and Red Bull have turned their attention to the rest of the team as they look to improve further and avoid complacency in his ranks.

Perez remains second in the championship standings, but if he cannot make a comeback, he risks wasting a unique finishing opportunity for Red Bull. The driver received multiple penalties throughout Sunday’s race for not respecting track limits and Marko sent a stern message to the 33-year-old.

He told Sky Deutschland:
“He has to get out of this negative spiral. There were some fast laps between the two, but that didn’t help with all these penalties.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner also spoke about Pérez’s frustrations, revealing that he wants to speak to the driver to try to rectify the ongoing problems. He explained:
“We need to talk to him (Perez) to understand what happened.

“He had a very difficult race and weekend and we will continue to give him our full support. He is still second in the drivers’ standings, but he needs to get back on form quickly. Speculation is circulating that the talks could be the start of some crucial rounds of negotiations with Perez’s position at stake, although Horner has given no indication that he is looking Verstappen a new teammate for 2024 at this stage.

Pérez was unhappy with the track changes speaking about his disappointing performance in Doha, believing last-minute curb changes were among the causes of his problems . He continued:
“For me, it’s difficult to judge exactly where the limits of the track are.

“To me, changing things at the last minute is like a joke,” he said, referring to last-minute changes to the track due to sidewalk issues. It was a frustrating trip. I’m very disappointed that I failed my team. It was a bad weekend. »
