Past Ryder Cup captain floats Tiger Woods idea

Who will captain Team USA when the Ryder Cup returns to American soil at Bethpage Black in 2025? Two-time Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III knows who the search should start with, Tiger Woods.

Love captained the United States Ryder Cup team to a heartbreaking defeat in 2012 and a redemptive victory four years later. After the 2023 Ryder Cup, a 16.5-11.5 win in Europe that was all but over after the first question, Love was asked who he thought would lead Team USA in 2025.

According to Sean Zak, Golf.com, “We need to call Tiger Woods and ask him.” “I think if he wants to, obviously Tiger is interested in a lot of things at the moment, but I would say it’s his decision. I hate to pressure him but it’s his decision. Obviously, with a few guys out, he’s the next logical choice.

Tiger has a story there. Bethpage Black has hosted three major tournaments. Woods won his first championship, the 2002 US Open, finishing at 3 under by defeating Phil Mickelson by three shots in a wire-to-wire victory. Woods has been a member of eight Ryder Cup teams, with his 1999 victory being his only win in the tournament. He has had a much better history at the Presidents Cup, making nine American teams, going 7-1-1 in those events. This includes the 2019 Presidents Cup, where Woods was captain.
