Lewis Hamilton was snubbed by Fernando Alonso as the F1 legend made a strong statement against Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen is set to win his third F1 world championship, as the Dutchman needs just three points in the sprint race in Qatar to win the title.

Fernando Alonso believes Max Verstappen will be compared to Michael Schumacher as one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time.

Verstappen needs just three points in the sprint ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix to win his third consecutive F1 world title and Alonso has rated the Dutchman as the best F1 driver since Schumacher, which is notable. The idea is that Lewis Hamilton was overlooked.

Hamilton and Schumacher both won a record seven world titles, while the Briton’s 103 victories are the most in the history of the sport. When asked about Verstappen’s performance, Alonso said:
“I’ve only ever driven with Michael, but maybe (Max did) with Michael, yeah.

“We have to wait and see. The next few years will be even better for Max. He will continue to add championships, so we will compare him more closely with Michael in the future. »

Hamilton, meanwhile, also praised Verstappen for the “incredible job” he has done at Red Bull, but is on the fence about ranking the 26-year-old among the greats. “I wouldn’t rank it,” Hamilton said.

“Everybody’s ranking is a matter of perspective. He’s earned his job and he’s done an incredible job with the package he’s got. He and the team have been perfect this year.

“They have raised the bar and we have to look at that and the areas where we can improve. I hope we can compete with them, but they should enjoy this moment because they worked hard for this.”

Verstappen is set to become the 11th driver in F1 history to win three world titles and he reflected on his first victory in 2021. This also took place in Qatar and this year’s race was the first F1’s first presence there since.

“At that time I was also fighting for my first title so the emotions were very different,” he said. “Now you’ve won two and you’re about to win your third, it’s very different emotions.

“But our position as a team is also very different, the car is much better than it was then so the feeling is completely different. But I like it both ways. I love this year, fighting to the end, but I also like what I’m doing now. I think it’s cool to do it in different ways.
