Lewis Hamilton makes F1 race marshal’s day in heartwarming moment caught on camera

During the Singapore Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton surprised a marshal with a thoughtful gesture.

During the Singapore Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton demonstrated his sophisticated side with a gesture that made a marshal happy. Despite qualifying in third, Mercedes’ gamble on a different strategy did not pay off, as the driver ended up in sixth place.

After starting the race on soft tires, Hamilton was called in for a new set of hard tires because he was unable to catch up to the leaders. Mercedes had pitted him too early, he insisted over the radio, and he lost a few positions before the race was over.

Prior to starting his race, Hamilton brightened the day of a marshal with a kind gesture that was captured on camera and shared on Mercedes’ social media platforms. It happened during the drivers’ parade, in which the drivers got on a truck trailer and completed a circuit lap.

In an attempt to get Hamilton’s attention, he saw a marshal screaming his name while holding up a hand-drawn poster. He motioned for the marshal to come over to him, and she dutifully complied, running to the truck and hurrying to stay up with it.

Hamilton took out a pen and signed his name in the corner of the poster before returning it to her. The marshal, clearly thrilled by Hamilton’s deed of generosity, returned to her place with a gleam in her eye.

We’ve been trying this for four years now, a marshal who was equally ecstatic that Hamilton had signed his colleague’s poster said to the camera as he embraced her.

Three weeks prior to his interaction with another marshal at the Italian Grand Prix, where he received a wild welcome in advance of his transfer to Ferrari the following year, Hamilton had made a kind gesture.

During the pre-race drivers’ parade, the marshal—who happened to be wearing a Mercedes cap—noticed Hamilton at the front of the truck. He screamed at Hamilton, “still we rise, still we rise,” as he dashed alongside the truck, overcome with excitement.

While recording the exchange, the 39-year-old briefly stopped to sign the marshal’s cap and shake hands with the man who had given it back. Hamilton expressed his gratitude by giving the marshal a thumbs up and then tapping his chest a few times.
