Lewis Hamilton tells Mercedes they are ‘killing him’ after bold Singapore GP tactic

During the Singapore Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton wasn’t happy with his Mercedes team.

With a risky tyre strategy for the Singapore Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton claimed that his Mercedes team was “killing him.”

Mercedes made an extra bold choice of tyres for the race around the Marina Bay Street Circuit, and the seven-time world champion improved his qualifying form to secure a P3 start.

At the start of the race, Hamilton had a great chance to pass second-placed Max Verstappen because nearly all of their competitors were starting on medium compound tires.

Regretfully, the seven-time world champion experienced significant wheelspin off the starting line and was only able to make a hesitant pass on Verstappen, who was in position, at Turn One.

After that, Hamilton fell back into teammate George Russell’s clutches on mediums. On lap 18, Mercedes decided to bring the 39-year-old in for hard since he was having trouble with tire temperatures.

Hamilton reported issues on Lap 27, despite his initial claims during his second stint that Mercedes had stopped him too soon. “Guy, there’s a serious issue with the car,” he said to Peter Bonnington. “The tires are going flat.”

Hamilton trailed his teammate and persisted in his protests after Russell finally stopped. He grumbled, “You’re killing me with this offset, mate.”

Oscar Piastri, who used a different tire strategy and ran to lap 39 on his mediums before finishing just under two seconds behind the Mercedes driver, went on to lose another position to Hamilton.

Piastri’s colleague was even happier. In order to break his pole position conversion curse, Lando Norris held off Verstappen when the lights went out. Then, he showed off his strength and extended a 20-second lead over his championship rival.
