Max Verstappen under investigation after Azerbaijan Grand Prix as race ends in chaos

Max Verstappen will be sent to the stewards due to a misdemeanor at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

A virtual safety car infraction at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix has prompted an inquiry into Max Verstappen.

Following a collision between Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez on the penultimate lap of the race, the Dutchman was placed in P5. But the same incident that cost him two positions could also prove to be his downfall.

After the race, Verstappen was put under investigation by the race stewards for overtaking cars under virtual safety car conditions after the chequered flag, which made him nervously wait for the results.

The three-time world champion has had a forgettable weekend overall. The chance to recover some points was there after title rival Lando Norris was eliminated in the first heat, but he came in one spot behind the McLaren star.
