Due to the team’s ongoing on-track difficulties, Red Bull’s internal relations are once again strained.
In the wake of the Dutch Grand Prix, Jos Verstappen criticized Christian Horner, the team principal for Red Bull, and Helmut Marko took over. Over the course of the next nine races, there is a chance that the current champions could lose both of their title fights.
It’s the worst run for Red Bull since the ground effect era, as they enter the Italian Grand Prix winless in their previous five Grands Prix. Even worse, there seems to be no stopping the Milton Keynes-based team from climbing back to the top of the podium.
Lando Norris, the defending champion, left Verstappen in the dust at Zandvoort, and Oscar Piastri’s P4 result reduced McLaren’s lead in the Constructors’ Championship standings to just thirty points. There are those in the camp who have had enough.
Following his son’s nearly 23-second loss to Norris at Zandvoort, Verstappen Sr. retaliated against Horner. He told Bild, “You can’t sugarcoat it anymore; the situation is serious.”
“Max will not be happy driving a car like that. Horner must now get the team back on course. Anything longer than twenty seconds is a huge letdown. Max was never in the running to win.
The 52-year-old continued, “The team made multiple mistakes in direction. You should look in the mirror when it comes to yourself and not always ignore anything. If it’s not too late, now is the perfect moment to reflect on who we are. The team’s best players are departing. I’m not happy with anything that’s going on.”
In an interview with Krone Zeitung, Marko responded to Verstappen Sr.’sremarksby saying, “Jos is Jos. Being an emotional person, he didn’t properly analyze his statements before making them. However, you also shouldn’t take it too personally.
“We have had some unfortunate results recently and have been beaten at times,” he continued. At Zandvoort, we had the incorrect setup, but it’s obvious that we’re under pressure to do better, and the changes should pay off.
Nonetheless, Marko did concur with some of Verstappen Sr.’sobservations. He said, “Team leader Horner needs to demonstrate quality.” “In this situation, hiding things won’t help.” “It will surprise me, but at the moment I say no,” the Austrian team principal said in response to a question about his ability to turn the tide. Many things need to occur. The spirit must transform as a whole.
