George Russell make surprised reaction towards Kimi Antonelli spot as Mercedes announcement imminent

At this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli’s F1 driver status will be revealed.

Kimi Antonelli was described by George Russell as “exceptionally fast” when the two lined up for a private test at Silverstone earlier this summer. This weekend in Monza, the adolescent will be named as Lewis Hamilton’s replacement.

Throughout the year, Antonelli has been prepared for the second Mercedes seat by completing a rigorous testing program in addition to his first Formula Two campaign. Toto Wolff has been willing to rely on the insurance policy that the 18-year-old presents, even though Max Verstappen was his first choice.

With Verstappen no longer in the picture, Antonelli can now focus on his Formula One debut at the Italian Grand Prix, where he will also be named the team’s driver for 2025 and beyond. Russell might become a huge star in the Formula One world if his remarks are any indication.

Russell clarified, “Every time he races F2, I see him.” We watch every race and always keep a close check on how he’s doing. A few months ago, we went to Silverstone for a test together.

Thus, it was a fantastic chance for him to operate a Formula One vehicle. He was incredibly quick, so I have no doubt that he would perform admirably if given the opportunity to drive in Formula One.

“I think we’ll welcome whoever is going to be my teammate next year,” he continued. and eager to take on the challenge in tandem. Kimi is a superb driver who has an incredible record in his junior series and was always meant to race in Formula One.

“And if it were him, I believe it would also demonstrate the strength of the Mercedes Junior Program.” brings back memories of my own journey, which began when I was a small child and involved climbing a ladder and entering a Formula Three car. And who knows, maybe it would make a fantastic team narrative?

This weekend at Monza, Antonelli isn’t the only rookie driver in the spotlight. Franco Colapinto and Alex Albon will be the new team name above Williams’ garage for the final nine races of the season.

He takes over for Logan Sargeant, who was fired by the team principal James Vowles after a serious FP3 crash at Zandvoort. Mick Schumacher and Liam Lawson were also being considered as possible successors, but Colapinto was chosen because he was the program’s star driver.
