Hamilton snaps back at negative claim from Mercedes engineer

Lewis Hamilton was accused by former Mercedes engineer Philipp Brändle of turning off when his chances of winning Formula 1 appeared remote. Over the weekend of the Dutch Grand Prix, the seven-time World Champion heard these accusations and refuted them.

The engineer said in an interview with Motorsport-Total: “It’s a shame that Hamilton sometimes lets himself down when he feels like the car isn’t performing well and he has no chance of winning the race. He can drive at 200 percent when he knows he has the slightest chance of succeeding.”

Hamilton snaps back at claim from ex-Mercedes engineer

During the weekend of the Dutch Grand Prix, Hamilton noticed the remark in the paddock. “I read a comment earlier saying that when the car isn’t working properly, I don’t drive 200%. I’ve given it everything and worked incredibly hard this year, but it’s still not good enough. I feel like I’m becoming more and more integrated with the car as it develops,” Hamilton retorted on Sky Sports.

Hamilton was the inform driver before the summer break. After experiencing some disappointment at the Canadian Grand Prix, where the effects of Mercedes’ upgrades were first noticeable, Hamilton proceeded to secure four podium finishes in the next five races. With two of those podium finishes, he broke his nearly 1,000-day winless streak.

Hamilton will have the opportunity to race in front of the Tifosi for the second time since it was revealed that he would be a 2025 Ferrari driver this coming weekend at the Italian Grand Prix.
