PGA Tour fans slam Matt Kuchar after baffling decision to return to 18th hole on Monday

Matt Kuchar will be the only competitor to return to the Wyndham Championship on Monday morning after determining it was too dark to finish the 18th hole.

After Matt Kuchar decided to be the only player not to complete his final round at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday night, PGA Tour supporters criticized him harshly.

In the last group, Kuchar, 46, decided not to play his second shot on the par-4 18th hole because of darkness, even though he and his playing partners, Max Greyserman and Chad Ramey, finished the hole.

Due to the call, the nine-time PGA Tour winner will need to return early on Monday in order to complete the 18th hole.

It also implies that several volunteers, event staff, and tournament officials will need to return specifically for him on Monday.

Kuchar’s decision to return on Monday was made even more puzzling by the fact that, regardless of the score on the card, he was down in T12 and could not even advance to the FedEx Cup Playoffs the following week.

All he had to do to go to the FedEx St Jude Championship the following week was win the Wyndham Championship.

On the 18th hole, Kuchar might lose up to $58,000 if he made a bogey.

Small change for a man whose PGA Tour earnings are set to surpass $60 million.

The only player on the field to not complete his round picture is Matt Kuchar.

— Sportsbook BetRivers (@BetRivers) August 12, 2024: Kuchar walked off the 18th hole and told Todd Lewis of Golf Channel that he felt play should have been called on the 16th green two holes earlier.

“We should’ve stopped playing so long ago,” Kuchar remarked.

“They ought to have blown the horn at hole 16 after witnessing what Max did there.

“I’m sorry, the poor kid deserved to win this competition.

“It might indicate to Max that he has a crucial shot to make if I don’t play.”

In reference to Greyserman’s four putts from 40 feet on the sixteenth hole, which resulted in a double bogey and his loss of the lead, Kuchar was speaking.

That occurred two holes after Greyserman lost his four-shot lead over Aaron Rai due to a disastrous quadruple-bogey eight.

The penultimate group was still ahead in the fairway, but Kuchar thrashed away at his tee shot down the par-4 18th, adding another bizarre twist to the whole thing.

The work was excellent. Had Kuchar not made a mistake when teeing off, there would have been a chance that his golf ball would have struck Rai, Cameron Young, Billy Horschel, and their caddies.

He sprayed the trees with his tee shot, aiming well left.

He marked up his ball and informed a PGA Tour rules official that he had no interest in completing the hole as soon as he arrived.

By the time they teed off the eighteenth, the horn had blown, so Kuchar was free to make that call.

However, Kuchar’s teammates Greyserman and Ramey made the decision to play through.

Ramey made a bogey to finish well down the field in T52, while Greyserman went on to make a par to finish solo in second.

Englishman Rai defeated Greyserman by two shots to win his first-ever PGA Tour title. It was astonishing that Greyserman lost a four-shot lead with five holes remaining.

Almost everyone was taken aback and perplexed by Kuchar’s decision to return on Monday to finish his final round, including the commentators on CBS Sports.

Kuchar’s decision means that on Monday morning, he will be the only player remaining in the field returning to finish his round.

Jim Nantz, the lead CBS host, was forced to say, “I don’t expect we’ll be bring you that coverage tomorrow.”

Matt Kuchar is forcing people to return the following day in order to complete ONE HOLE. Crazy.

Matt Kuchar has solidified his status as the biggest douchebag on the Tour.

Just now, Matt Kuchar demonstrated that he has surpassed Rory Sabatini to win the PGA TOUR asshole award!

Incredible……

I have no idea what this Matt Kuchar thing is about, just like the rest of you. Not at all. Getting to the last hole was the whole purpose of hitting into the leader. Then he chooses to return the following day? They finished everything before dusk on Sunday evening, following a week marred by bad weather. aside from one man.

In case you’re not following the golf, here’s what Jason Sobel (@JasonSobelGolf) said on August 12, 2024:

Due to darkness, Matt Kuchar, who is currently in the 12th position and has no chance of winning this tournament or qualifying for the playoffs, simply marked his ball in the 18th fairway while his group was finishing. He will now return tomorrow to play a half-hole ALONE.

Matt Kuchar displaying extreme self-interest.

He has decided not to compete, but because of the darkness, he will not finish 18. Only him. To complete half a golf hole, a plethora of staff and crew must return for him.

Oh Kuch, don’t ever alter. tweet.com/M7V0DEEdsm

Matt Kuchar is not a candidate to win the competition. He is not eligible to advance to the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

On the eighteenth hole, he teed off quickly and struck Aaron Rai.

It’s ridiculous that he decided not to fill the hole and to make so many people wake up early tomorrow so he could finish!
