The professional golf scene has been divided since the establishment of the LIV Golf League in 2022, which is based in Saudi Arabia. Tensions are at an all-time high as the PGA Tour seeks funding from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the LIV Golf League’s main financier.
In an effort to bring together the players from the two tours, the PGA Tour and its European counterpart, the DP World Tour, signed a deal with the Public Investment Fund on June 6, last year.
Richard Bland, the winner of the 2024 Senior PGA Championship, was excluded from the Champions Tour due to the conflict because he participated in LIV golf. Another player in League of Legends, Henrick Stenson, has now expressed his opinions to the Mirror.
“I believe that a formal truce was intended to be established when the framework agreement was put in place. Following his Senior PGA victory a week ago, Richard Bland discovered on social media that he would not be receiving any starts on the Champions Tour due to his LIV play. Richard has never even played on the PGA Tour, but from what I understand, he is ineligible to play on the Champions Tour simply because he plays LIV. There are still issues to be resolved behind the scenes because it’s not like everyone is holding hands and singing songs together. Though it hasn’t been perfect, perhaps more intelligent people than us can come to a solution he said.
Henrick Stenson’s LIV Golf career
The Swedish golfer Henrick Stenson joined Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood at Majesticks GC in 2023 after making his LIV Golf League debut in 2022. He participated in four of the seven events during his rookie season, finishing with 40 points to rank 18th. Stenson participated in 13 of the 14 LIV Golf competitions in 2023 with the Majesticks. He finished on the fifth hole at the LIV Golf Invitational in Washington, DC, to earn 16 points overall, which was his best finish of the season. With 55 points, Stenson placed 25th overall on the leaderboard.
Stenson has participated in each of the first seven LIV Golf events this season. He has now finished three events in a row without receiving any points, having placed 44th in the competition’s Singapore edition. With 11.08 points, Stenson is currently 35th in the standings. He has only accrued points from the LIV Golf Invitational in Las Vegas and Hong Kong this season. With 8.42 points, he finished eighth in Hong Kong, and in Las Vegas, he was awarded 2.66 points.
