Rory McIlroy’s wife Erica Stroll ‘misses divorce deadline’ as new romance surfaces

Past the US PGA, Rory McIlroy filed for divorce.

Erica Stroll, Rory McIlroy’s wife, has decided not to challenge the divorce. Three days before McIlroy teed off at the US PGA Championship, on May 13, Stroll, 36, reportedly received a notice of suit at her Florida home.

Under Florida’s normal 20-day window for contesting a divorce, Stroll, 36, had until Sunday, June 2 to do so.

Now that the deadline has gone, the Palm Beach County Clerk’s office has acknowledged to the Daily Mail that she has not filed a response.

The Northern Irishman could now theoretically get a default divorce from the court. Should that come to pass, Stroll would be unable to refute her husband’s petition, which labeled their seven-year marriage as “irretrievably broken,” and the case would proceed accordingly.

The American, who initially encountered McIlroy at the 2021 Ryder Cup, reportedly received official documentation that read, “You have 20 calendar days from the date this summons is served on you to file a written response to the attached petition with the clerk of this circuit court,” according to reports.

“Making a call won’t keep you safe. If you want the Court to hear your side of the story, you must file your written response with the case number mentioned above and the names of the parties.

“You might lose the case if you don’t submit your response by the deadline. And the court may then seize your property, money, and wages without giving you any more notice.”

The news comes amid rumors that the four-time major winner is dating someone new. The 35-year-old McIlroy was seen on Sunday hugging CBS journalist Amanda Balionis, seemingly confirming the rumors that they are dating just minutes after their TV interview ended.

Balionis is said to have given up her married name and her wedding ring after learning of McIlroy’s divorce. The celebrity released a personal statement through his representatives ahead of the US PGA at Valhalla, declining to answer questions about his personal life.

Manager Sean O’Flaherty stated, “Rory McIlroy’s communications team confirmed today that a divorce has been filed.” “They emphasized Rory’s wish to make this trying time as polite and respectful as possible.”

Poppy, McIlroy and Stroll’s only child, was born in 2020. The couple got married in April 2017. Prior to the Masters at Augusta last April, Stroll catered for her husband at the par-three tournament. The two have previously partnered on the golf course.
