Following Daily Mail reports that Rory McIlroy hired Carl Woods, a police officer, to serve his wife Erica Stoll with divorce papers, fans responded on social media. This year, earlier, the Northern Irish golfer and his wife separated after seven years of marriage.

But he supposedly hired a private investigator to take care of the necessary business rather than giving Erica the documents directly. When his wife was living in their Jupiter, Florida, shared house, Rory McIlroy filed for divorce in Palm Beach County. On May 13, a few hours after winning the Wells Fargo Championship, he apparently hired former Palm Beach police officer Woods to serve Erica with the papers. Nuclr Golf posted the report with the following caption on its X (previously Twitter) account:

NEW: Shortly after winning the Wells Fargo, Rory McIlroy allegedly hired Carl Woods, a Palm Beach police officer, to serve his wife Erica with divorce papers at their home. (Through @DailyMailUK) “People immediately took to the comments section to discuss the officer, who has the same last name as renowned golfer and close friend of McIlroy, Tiger Woods.

“Officer Woods,” wrote a fan.

“That’s hard core,” one of the fans said.
Another supporter proposed that McIlroy ought to have announced his divorce prior to winning the Wells Fargo Championship in order to exclude the winnings from the settlement.
“It should have been done before he won; the proceeds would not have been factored into the settlement amounts,” a fan wrote.

“Do you say, Officer Woods? He has grown on me a little bit,” a fan tweeted.

It is noteworthy that Thomas Sasser has been retained by Rory McIlroy for his divorce. Prior to Tiger Woods’ 2010 divorce from Elin Nordegren, the lawyer worked for the golf star.

The reasons Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll allegedly got divorced are revealed by an insider.

On May 9, following the first round of the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship, Rory McIlroy allegedly digitally signed his divorce papers with Erica. Less than twenty-four hours after the Irishman’s victory in the Quail Hollow PGA Tour event, on May 13, Erica received the papers. Fox News reports that the couple decided to file for divorce because their marriage was “irretrievably broken.”

After getting married in 2017, the couple has a daughter called Poppy. But Erica felt “lonely” in the marriage, and their differences widened over time, according to US Weekly. An insider said that Erica was “really focused” on their daughter following her birth.

“[Erica] was aware of the risks associated with his line of work, but after they had Poppy, everything completely changed and she gained fresh insight. The insider told US Weekly, “Erica was really focused on Poppy and was usually absent from most of his tournaments.”

The RBC Canadian Open this week at Hamilton Golf and Country Club is where McIlroy is next scheduled to compete on the course. On Thursday, May 30, the competition will begin with its first round. It will end on Sunday, June 2.
