“He’s a massive loss for the PGA Tour”: Is Bryson DeChambeau the most entertaining golfer in the world

The Par FORE Podcast crew discusses Bryson DeChambeau’s recent rise to popularity and why he might be the most likeable golfer in the world this week.

Unquestionably, one of the most entertaining golfers is Bryson DeChambeau, but is he also one of the most likeable these days?

From his debut on the golf scene, to now, the 30-year-old DeChambeau has been an intriguing figure.

DeChambeau, a Physics major, has always followed his own path, whether it’s creating his own clubs or using novel tactics to outsmart his rivals.

Because he is a player who rarely follows the rules, he was a divisive figure on the PGA Tour for a long time.

In order to hit the ball farther, he is renowned for putting on a significant amount of weight. This helped him win the 2020 US Open.

Side saddle putting is one example of the many strategies DeChambeau has tried—the list is longer than my arm—and while some have been successful, others have been more hit-or-miss.

He has always been intriguing even though he has long been seen as a bit of a Marmite golfer. When he signed a contract with the LIV Golf League in June 2022, he only served to stoke the ire of those who weren’t exactly as fond of him.

Despite this, he appears to have become even more popular with golf fans since joining the Breakaway League; in fact, he may be the only player to do so since the major split between the PGA Tour and LIV.

The spectators at Valhalla Golf Club were very supportive of him during his most recent performance at the US PGA, where he finished in second place.

He was dubbed “The man of the people” for a specific incident in which he yelled at an adult spectator for stealing a ball he had thrown to a child in the crowd.

Pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau was praised as a “man for the people” after he stopped an adult fan on the PGA Championship sidelines from fleeing with a golf ball that he intended to give to a child.

Aside from winning the US PGA Championship, however, what has made DeChambeau one of the most likable golfers in the world?

We discussed it in-depth on the podcast, and this is what I had to say about it:

“I’ll be honest; there was a time when I found DeChambeau to be pretty irksome and frustrating. Ironically, I believe that changing hats has actually had a significant impact.

In addition, I believe that he is very well-represented on social media, which has won over a lot of people to his cause. It’s possible to learn more about him than what you see in interviews alone.

“The best characters on the PGA Tour were taken by LIV when a lot of players left, and Bryson is without a doubt one of those players.

“He played well, engaged with the fans, put on an incredible show at the PGA, and generally seemed to be taking things a little less seriously.

“He is such a huge loss for the PGA Tour because he is so unique and entertaining to watch.”

The GolfMagic crew also covered the topic of why everyone should get a custom fitting, how much golf clubs have changed recently, and which players are currently the most entertaining.
