Adrian Newey may follow Lewis Hamilton from Red Bull to Ferrari.
After Adrian Newey departs Red Bull at the end of the 2024 season, he is expected to team up with Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari. Although the renowned F1 designer maintains he has “no plans” for the future, he is said to have already discussed a blockbuster switch with a Ferrari representative.
Working with Newey, who has created championship-winning vehicles for Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, would be a “privilege,” according to Hamilton, who is leaving Mercedes for Maranello next season.
Before moving on to new pastures, the 65-year-old, who has spent 19 years at Red Bull, is anticipated to win his 13th career Constructors’ Championship.
He’s reportedly been granted an early release from his role as chief technical officer, and Ferrari is pushing for his inclusion in a dream team that includes Hamilton, Fred Vasseur, and Charles Leclerc.
When Newey leaves Red Bull before April 1st of next year, Ferrari is his “likeliest” destination, according to F1 expert Craig Slater of Sky Sports.
Slater said, “I’ve talked to a dozen people who know Adrian fairly well and people who are connected to Ferrari, and they all think that there is a real possibility for that to happen.”
“As far as I can tell, Adrian is still unsure of his plans. I am aware that a meeting was held.
“We are still in the early stages, but Adrian did meet with a Ferrari representative in London to discuss potentially going there, though I can’t confirm it was with Fred Vasseur.”
According to reports, Aston Martin is prepared to make a sizable offer to entice Newey to join the team and advance Laurence Stroll’s project.
Slater, once more focusing on Ferrari, has shot down hints that that will be his course of action.
“Many people know where he’s not going,” he continued. Thirty are prepared to tell me that it is not an Aston Martin and that it is not appropriate for him.
Perhaps because of the dynamics there, [Aston Martin wouldn’t fit]. It is, after all, primarily Laurence Stroll’s project.
Maybe at this point in his career, it lacks the historical appeal for him as well. Ferrari seems like the obvious choice, don’t you think?
