Tiger Woods, who placed dead last at the 2024 Masters, believes the PGA Tour is on the right track with LIV Golf.
After coming in last at the 2024 Masters, Tiger Woods declared that the PGA Tour is ‘heading in the right direction’ with LIV Golf.
At Augusta National, Woods, 48, shot a five-over 77 on Sunday in his 100th round of golf.
After shooting 73, 72, and 82 earlier in the week, it meant he finished dead last at the first major of the year.
After making his 26th Masters appearance, a worn-out Woods told reporters that he intended to compete in the final three majors in 2024.
The PGA Championship is scheduled to take place at Valhalla from May 13–19, while the U.S. Open will be held at Pinehurst from June 10–16.
Royal Troon will host the 152nd Open in July. For sure, Woods will be at all three.
“From now on, I will complete my assignments at Pinehurst, Valhalla, and Troon,” declared Woods.
When asked about his strategy for the major that takes place next month, Woods replied, “Just keep lifting, keep the motor going.” Maintain the body’s activity.
“Perhaps the training sessions will continue to lengthen.”
Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the governor of PIF and chairman of LIV, met with Woods and the player directors of the PGA Tour in March.
The breakaway tour is funded by PIF, the sizeable sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia.
How fruitful that meeting was and how close both parties were to finalizing the framework agreement from last June were not immediately apparent.
Woods was asked by a reporter about his thoughts on Al-Rumayyan and the degree of peace that the parties are close to reaching.
Woods remarked, “I don’t know if we’re closer, but we’re definitely headed in the right direction.”
Golf fans who are sick of the disruptions to men’s professional golf will sigh at Woods’ comment.
The LIV/PGA Tour split still threw a slight shadow over the major, despite the fact that golf has dominated much of the conversation this week.
Separate journey Jon Rahm was the defending champion, and Bryson DeChambeau made inroads during the first 54 holes.
Greg Norman, the commissioner of LIV Golf, also showed up to encourage his players.
Tom Watson, the renowned golfer, allegedly put Rahm’s dinner party on the down low on Tuesday night.
“I think both sides came away from the meeting feeling positive,” Woods continued. “That was a very positive meeting.”
Woods broke the record for the most consecutive cuts made at the Masters on Friday, creating history.
With 24 straight cuts made, Woods moved ahead of Gary Player and Fred Couples by playing his way into the weekend.
When asked how he felt about his performance this week, Woods replied, “It went well. Overall, the week was enjoyable.
“I think it was a good fight on Thursday and Friday, considering that we hadn’t played a full tournament in a very long time coming in.
“Unfortunately, yesterday’s outcome wasn’t quite what I had hoped for.”
