LIV Golf Professional Mito Pereira claims that it “hurt a little bit” to watch Justin Thomas take a shot at him and that he is seeking retribution.
Mito Pereira, a player for LIV Golf, said it “hurt a little bit” to see Justin Thomas make fun of him during his dinner speech at the 2023 PGA Championship.
A vicious jab from Thomas that was caught on camera during the second season of the Netflix documentary Full Swing was directed at Pereira.
Before dinner at Oak Hill Country Club in his honor, Thomas, 30, was speaking to previous PGA Championship winners. He said, “I personally want to have a cheers to Mito Pereira because this would not happen without him.”
Although the players in the room laughed at the comment, it received a mixed response overall, with some golf fans accusing JT of being impolite.
Thomas was referring to the Chilean’s expensive bogey on Southern Hills’ 72nd hole.
When Pereira cut his tee shot into the creek on the last hole, he was leading the field by one stroke.
Thomas and Will Zalatoris advanced to the playoffs as a result of the missed shot.
Pereira expressed his desire to be in a position to defeat Thomas in the future to Barstool Sports.
“It wasn’t very enjoyable for me or anyone else,” the 29-year-old said prior to LIV Golf Miami, as reported by Barstool Sports.
“I’ve looked at Instagram, and not many people are praising him there.
It’s not like I’m going to go talk to him because we’re not that close.
It didn’t hurt all that much to confront him and say something.
You get a small amount of fire from it. I would really like to be in that position to defeat him if that were to happen again.”
On the eve of the 2024 Masters, Thomas revealed in another place that he and his longtime caddie Jim “Bones” Mackay had split.
Mackay and Thomas have not disclosed the precise cause of their breakup.
Thomas wrote a heartfelt message on X wishing Bones well.
