In anticipation of The Masters, Phil Mickelson is searching for a new caddie after his brother Tim announced his retirement.
Phil Mickelson, the golf legend, has confirmed in a heartfelt tweet that his brother Tim has chosen to retire from his position and is now stepping down from his bag.
Just two weeks prior to the start of The Masters, 53-year-old Mickelson shared the news about his younger brother on Twitter and X.
This means that three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson is currently searching for a new caddie in advance of the LIV Golf event outside of Miami next week and the season’s opening major at Augusta National in two weeks.
Tim’s request to leave Mickelson’s bag comes more than seven years after the golfer’s June 2017 breakup with longtime caddie Jim “Bones” Mackay.
According to Phil Mickelson, his brother and Caddie Tim Mickelson is no longer active.
Tim’s decision to retire, in the opinion of 45-time PGA Tour winner Mickelson, will enable him to spend more time with his family.

Mickelson tweeted:
“It has been an incredible experience to share my professional achievements with my brother Tim,” Mickelson wrote. “I consider myself extremely fortunate to have had him as my brother for life and on the bag for the last eight years.” Since we began working together and he was single, a lot has changed. Tim has found his life partner, Maranda, with whom he has had a second son, and they hope to grow their family further. “I’ll always cherish the many great moments we’ve shared on the course, and I look forward to many more special moments off the course, too,” the woman said, “even though Tim is retiring from caddying.”
Tim was an Arizona State golf coach and Jon Rahm’s agent before joining the six-time major winner’s staff.
Tim, who is seven years younger than Phil, shared three wins with Mickelson, the greatest of which came at the 2021 US PGA at Kiawah Island, where Lefty, at the age of fifty-one months and 11 months, became the oldest major champion in history.
In addition, he was the favorite to win the 2019 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the 2018 WGC-Mexico Championship.
After agreeing to a reported $200 million fee, Lefty then famously bolted to LIV Golf in the summer of 2022.
Mickelson has not yet announced who will be his new caddie for the Trump Doral LIV Golf event next week.
After that, he’ll focus on The Masters, which happens from April 11–14.
Even though he currently sits 156th in the Official World Golf Rankings, Mickelson can play at The Masters for as long as he wants because he has won the event in the past.
The Masters has been won by Mickelson three times: in 2004, 2006, and 2010.
