Lewis Hamilton clashed with Mercedes chiefs after raising key issue – ‘You’re wrong’

This season, Lewis Hamilton will be leaving Mercedes to join Ferrari, but it looks that there were conflicts within the team before his departure was made public.

In 2022, Lewis Hamilton expressed concerns about the Mercedes car and was told he was “wrong.”

Since 2013, the 39-year-old has been a Mercedes driver and has experienced great success. Six Drivers’ Championships have been won by him with German manufacturers.

Mercedes, on the other hand, had a disastrous season in 2022, finishing third behind Red Bull and Ferrari, with Hamilton finishing sixth. Since then, Hamilton has disclosed that he voiced concerns regarding the car’s design process, but that his concerns were ignored.

“Look, we have to make these changes, otherwise this is the trajectory we’re going to go on, this is where we’re going to end up, and it’s… please, please do something about it,” he said, speaking in the most recent season of the Netflix series Drive To Survive.

Furthermore, I recall them saying, “We know what we’re doing.” You’re not correct. Indeed, that was an intriguing moment. I said, “Okay, I’ll back off so I don’t step on anyone’s toes,” but when the season started, we talked again, and [they] said, “Oh, maybe you were right.”

After his apprehensions prior to the 2022 season, Mercedes and Hamilton have experienced marginally better luck. After Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, he finished third in the standings the previous season.

Mercedes came in second place in the Constructors standings, trailing their competitors. Before Hamilton makes his unexpected move to Ferrari at the end of the season, Toto Wolff is currently searching for a replacement.

Wolff said the following regarding how he disclosed his impending move: “When he told me first, my next thought was pragmatic, what does it mean? When are we going to communicate this? Which pressure points are there? He said, “How are we going to manage this season moving forward, and what are we going to do in terms of driver lineup?”

“That was the Mercedes, the team’s mind, coming into play. After spending a few nights together, we’ve come to the conclusion that our professional journey is coming to an end, but our personal relationship is still intact.

“I’ve made a friend with whom I’ve spent the last ten years developing a relationship, and he recently had to make a decision about where to drive, possibly for the first time in ten years, without consulting me beforehand.

I will always appreciate the difficulty of the circumstances he faced as a result. And we’ll talk about whether or not this could have been done differently in the future. But I’m not angry with you.
