Why Charlie Woods isn’t wearing dad Tiger’s new clothing range in PGA Tour qualifier

Charlie Woods is vying for a spot in his home-town PGA Tour event this week by competing in the pre-qualifier for the Cognizant Classic at The Palm Beaches.

Charlie, the son of Tiger Woods, participated in a PGA Tour qualifier on Thursday, and onlookers noticed that he was dressed strangely for the course.

Charlie, 15, participated in a tournament at the Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida, in an attempt to earn a spot in the Cognizant Classic at The Palm Beaches. He wore a Titleist and Greyson Clothiers instead of his father’s new clothing line, Sun Day Red.

Charlie surprised fans by refusing to wear his father’s new company’s clothing. Greyson and Titleist both sponsor a large number of golfers. But Woods Sr. has already spoken out about his son’s choice in his future profession, stating that he wants Charlie to make his own choices.

Woods stated in an interview from 2021 that “He is his own person.” One of the things we checked to make sure Charlie is Charlie is that. Regardless of his choice of direction, I applaud him.”

After 27 years, Tiger ended his 27-year partnership with Nike in January, ending one of the most recognizable alliances in sports history. Although it was unlikely that Charlie would sign with Nike, it may come as a surprise to see him choose to wear Greyson sneakers, which are partially owned by NFL legend Larry Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald appeared to imply that the 15-year-old had signed a contract with the company when he posted on Instagram, “Welcome to the family, Charlie Woods.”

Charlie is competing in the 2023 PNC Championship alongside his father, Tiger Woods, demonstrating how seriously he takes his golfing career. After an incredible ascent up the leaderboard, the two tied for fifth place, with Charlie hitting every fairway on the last day of competition.

But after shooting a 16-over-par 86 to finish well outside the event’s five qualifying spots, it appears that his quest to qualify is now over.

This month, Woods, 48, unveiled his new brand. “I’ve worn red in every tournament I’ve played as a professional,” declared the 15-time major winner. It’s simply come to represent me. That’s me, Sunday red. Mother [Kultida] was the initiator.

“She believed that since I am a Capricorn, red is my power color. As a junior golfer, I competed in several tournaments wearing red. And sure enough, I attend Stanford University, which is red. On the last day of each and every tournament, we wore red.”

Following his illness-related withdrawal from the Genesis Invitational, Woods is anticipated to make his return to the PGA Tour at the Players Championship the following month. In April, five years after his most recent triumph at Augusta, he will also compete in the Masters.
