Red Bull’s Helmut Marko quizzed about Christian Horner as team endure ‘turbulence’

Helmut Marko has broken his silence on Red Bull’s investigation into Christian Horner.

In light of the ongoing investigation into team principal Christian Horner, Helmut Marko has urged Red Bull to calm down their “turbulence.” The CEO of Formula One is under investigation for alleged inappropriate behavior, which he disputes, after an Austrian female employee complained to Red Bull’s parent company.

Ahead of the upcoming season, the scandal has clouded Red Bull; Horner’s future is reportedly in jeopardy while the investigation is ongoing. He was at Silverstone on Tuesday for the team’s shakedown run and plans to be present at the RB20 launch on Thursday.

Marko, who has advised Red Bull since the team’s 2005 Formula One entry, thinks the team is “well prepared,” but he also wants Horner’s situation resolved as soon as possible.

“I can’t tell you that, nor can I say anything else on this subject. As long as the investigation is ongoing or there is no result, you won’t hear from me. It is an ongoing process,” Marko said to OE24 when asked if the Horner case was having an impact on Red Bull’s preparations.

“I’m hoping we can swiftly calm down the turbulence.” Thankfully, we are well-prepared and our car is ready.”

Red Bull will go into the new season as the team to beat, having firmly established themselves as the commanding force in F1. They completed a clean sweep last year in one of the most dominant seasons on record, with Max Verstappen cruising to the individual honours ahead of team-mate Sergio Perez.

It remains to be seen if the investigation into Horner will risk derailing Red Bull’s efforts to stay ahead of their rivals when the new season gets underway. The saga could reportedly drag on until after next month’s Bahrain Grand Prix, with Horner likely to face subsequent rounds of questioning as he looks to prove his innocence.

Red Bull declared earlier in the month that they were treating the situation “very seriously” and that a resolution would be reached “as soon as practicable.” It said: “The company launched an independent investigation after learning of recent allegations. An outside, specialized attorney is conducting this already-initiated investigation.

The company is taking these issues very seriously, and it plans to wrap up its investigation as soon as is practical. At this point, it would not be appropriate to make any more remarks.”
