Tyrrell Hatton, an Englishman, decided to join LIV Golf this month, so TGL will proceed without him. In the interim, the league is still building its six teams.
With the Englishman being revealed as a player at Los Angeles Golf Club, Tommy Fleetwood has become the most recent TGL celebrity to be assigned to one of the creative golf setup’s teams.
Fleetwood joined PGA Tour players Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, and fellow countryman Justin Rose on the Los Angeles roster, which was officially announced on Wednesday. The President of the Los Angeles Golf Club greeted the newly crowned Dubai Invitational champion, saying, “We are thrilled to welcome Tommy Fleetwood to the Los Angeles Golf Club family.”
“Tommy’s extraordinary ability on the golf course and his devotion to the game are a wonderful fit with our principles and our mission to promote golf at the highest caliber.”
Three months before the TGL setup was originally scheduled to launch, in October of last year, Fleetwood—who has 11 wins worldwide—joined. The SoFi Center stadium in Palm Beach, where Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy founded the simulator league, sustained significant damage in December.
Due to this, the league’s organizers decided to postpone the launch date by a full year, canceling the inaugural season that was scheduled to begin in January. Given that Fleetwood is moving to Los Angeles this week, this has given everyone involved more time to settle into their franchises.
“I am thrilled to join Los Angeles Golf Club and be part of a community that shares my passion for the game,” the Ryder Cup star said, expressing his satisfaction with his new team. My own values are in line with the club’s dedication to developing talent and advancing the sport, and I am looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.”
Only a few days had passed since Fleetwood’s fellow Englishman Tyrrell Hatton was removed from the TGL roster due to his transfer to LIV Golf. The league’s website no longer features any information about Hatton or his player profile, which creates another void in their lineup.
Hatton is not the only LIV player who left TGL; Jon Rahm, his new teammate, was also the first to leave. Rahm did not mention a possible transfer to LIV Golf when he made his announcement in November that he had chosen to forfeit his opportunity to compete on the simulator circuit.
The Spanish player’s record-breaking £450 million move to the breakaway league was confirmed a little over a month later, and he has since enticed Hatton, his Ryder Cup partner, to complete his Legion XIII squad. Additionally, Fleetwood acknowledged last month that he had declined an offer from LIV executives after receiving one during the offseason.
