Why Lewis Hamilton is excited about Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton recently signed a new contract with Mercedes, keeping him with the team until the end of the 2025 season.

Lewis Hamilton admitted before the return of the Qatar Grand Prix that he was excited to battle Ferrari for second place in the constructors’ championship, a position he admitted he had never Now expect Mercedes to challenge.

Formula One returns to the Losail International Circuit for the next Grand Prix for the first time since 2021, a race won by the seven-time world champion.

Qatar was not on last season’s calendar due to preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, held last December.

It’s a very fast circuit with lots of high-speed corners, something Mercedes has struggled with this season. Mercedes’ strength lies in its ability to corner at low and medium speeds, which means they may be weaker than Ferrari in the Middle Eastern country.

Silver Arrows currently has a 20-point advantage over Ferrari in the battle for second place, although it is the Italians who are having smooth sailing.

Ferrari have really squeezed out some performance from the SF-23 recently, resulting in Carlos Sainz taking back-to-back pole positions in Italy and Singapore, while he even won in solve later.

Mercedes continues to struggle to produce fast laps in qualifying, while this is an area where Ferrari has tended to thrive since the introduction of new aerodynamic regulations in 2022.

However, the Brackley-based team still appears to have the race pace advantage, with Hamilton and George Russell simply needing to qualify as close to the front as possible to make the most of this particular advantage over Ferrari. According to the 103-time race winner, it’s a sure-fire fight going into the season finale in Abu Dhabi, with an “interesting” situation to be in.

“It’s exciting to have this race, this battle right now,” Hamilton told media outlets, including RacingNews365.com.

Just like them [Ferrari], we started the season quite badly.

“I certainly didn’t expect to be second among the constructors and now have been relatively close, especially in the last two races, and am fighting in the constructors.

“It’s exciting for us as a team. And of course, we want to beat them just as much as they want to beat us, so it’s going to take a lot of effort, that’s for sure.
