Adrian Meronk playing status explained ahead of LIV Golf move

Adrian Meronk is set to become the next PGA Tour star to make the move to LIV Golf for the 2024 season, but the Polish star will not be limited to just the breakaway league

Adrian Meronk is set to become the next PGA Tour star to lose his playing rights on the American-based circuit, with a move to LIV Golf imminent.

Meronk has finished relocating to the LIV setup in time for the breakaway league’s season opener in Mexico the following week, according to The Times. Only a few weeks after the Pole had confirmed his Tour card for the season following an outstanding 2023 on the DP World Tour, the move will result in a ban from the PGA Tour.

It is unlikely that Meronk’s loss of playing privileges on the American circuit will prevent him from participating in the majors later this year, despite the fact that several other rebel players have experienced similar difficulties.

The rising star from Europe is currently exempt from the Masters and Open Championship, and his Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) ought to earn him an invitation to the US Open.

Meronk will participate in all 14 of LIV’s tournaments in 2024 in addition to the main events. With Cleeks GC, the Polish player will compete in an all-European lineup alongside captain Martin Kaymer, Richard Bland, and the newly promoted Kalle Samooja.

Meronk will only compete twice in Europe this season; in July, LIV will play matches in Spain and the United Kingdom. He will also make a trip back to Australia, a place he is familiar with having won the Australian Open in 2022.

There will also be visits to Mexico, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Saudi Arabia in addition to five events that take place in the United States. Even with his newfound allegiance to LIV Golf, Meronk will still be able to play on the DP World Tour if he so chooses.

The Wentworth-based circuit has the authority to impose shorter suspensions and fines than the PGA Tour, but it has not banned LIV players. Many athletes from the breakaway league have chosen to start the season this month on the DP World Tour.

Samooja, Meronk’s future Cleeks teammate, participated in the Heo Dubai Desert Classic and Dubai Invitational in January. Joaquin Niemann, the captain of Torque GC and a fellow LIV star, joined him at Emirates Golf Club for the latter event last week.
