After months of criticizing teammate Matthew Wolff, Koepka’s Smash GC team traded Wolff to the RangeGoats in exchange for reigning LIV individual champion Talor Gooch.
With this move, Koepka and Wolff’s months-long drama comes to an end. It started this summer when Koepka attacked Wolff, calling him a “wasted” talent.
At the time, Koepka declared, “I’ve basically given up on him.”
For the remainder of the season, Koepka didn’t back down. He even mentioned his brother Chase and Jason Kokrak when he said, “There’s only three of us on our team,” during the LIV team championship.
After placing in the bottom four of the individual standings, Koepka’s younger brother was demoted, so in 2024, his team will appear very different. (Chase Koepka also opted out of the LIV promotions event this week, which would have allowed him to return to the league for the upcoming season.) After announcing last week that he had signed Graeme McDowell, the winner of the U.S. Open previously, Koepka completed his roster with the addition of Gooch, a 32-year-old Oklahoman who had just finished his best season to date, becoming the league’s first three-time winner and earning over $35 million.
Wolff dropped to 27th in the standings this year after placing sixth in his debut LIV season.
Koepka’s team now has two of the top three individual performers from the previous campaign thanks to the trade.
Koepka remarked, “Last season, we faced our own struggles on the course.” “If I didn’t say how happy I am to see him on the podium for our squad right now, I would be lying.”
In addition, Harold Varner III was traded by Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats team on Thursday to the 4Aces in return for Peter Uihlein.
