PGA Tour drops huge hint over Jon Rahm’s future amid LIV Golf links

Rumours surrounding Jon Rahm’s move to LIV Golf only strengthened on Tuesday, after it was confirmed he had not entered to defend his American Express title next month

The PGA Tour’s American Express event have confirmed Jon Rahm will not defend his title at La Quinta Country Club next month amid rumours the Spaniard is set to join LIV Golf.

It has been reported in recent weeks that Rahm will join the LIV in 2024, which would be a major setback for the PGA Tour. One of the Tour’s first events of the year, the American Express, revealed their field on Tuesday, but one notable participant was left off the list.

The player in question was none other than reigning champion Rahm, who captured the AmEx title for the second time in January after winning the tournament in California by a single shot.

Rahm’s exclusion from the list only serves to confirm the rumors that the Spaniard will be joining Greg Norman and company. The Masters champion has chosen to avoid the spotlight when it comes to confirming or refuting his purported switch to Saudi Arabia in light of recent reports.

The 82-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods made a comeback at last week’s Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, which the Spaniard chose to miss. When asked about the rumors pertaining to Rahm’s future during his comeback, Woods responded, “Hypothetically, would it surprise me? Indeed.

However, a plethora of diverse events have transpired not just in the past 48 hours, as you mentioned, but also in the past few weeks. Both now and in the future, things will change. There are a lot of moving pieces because this is our deadline.

“A lot of different things are happening very quickly because we know we don’t have much time left—I believe today is the first day of December.” Jordan Spieth also talked about the future of the Masters winner, emphasizing how much of a loss Rahm would be to the PGA Tour.

“One of our greatest assets on the PGA Tour is Jon Rahm,” Spieth remarked. We want to play against the best players in the world, and Jon is one of them, so it really wouldn’t be good for us in general. I am aware that he has spoken with a few guys.

“I am aware that he may or may not be considering his options. I honestly don’t know, so I don’t want to offend him by assuming that he is making a decision even though he already knows he isn’t. That is, in a sense, beyond my control. Of course, I could probably speak for more than 200 players on the PGA Tour when I say that we sincerely hope he stays with us.
