Tiger Woods response to shaky Round 3 start sums golfer up after surgery

Tiger Woods’ comeback is taking place at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas following months out through injury – and the golfer is using it as a test for future events

Tiger Woods battled back from two early bogeys to card a 1-under score in Round Three of the Hero World Challenge.

This is Woods’ first competition since having ankle surgery and withdrawing from The Masters in April. The legendary golfer held a press conference this week after confirming his comeback in November, but he was unsure if his body could handle the strain. “Like all of you, I’m curious about what’s going to happen,” Woods remarked.

Following his opening round performance of three overs, Woods acknowledged that “everywhere” hurts. Woods responded, “My leg, my back, my neck,” when asked where most. “Just from playing, trying to hold off shots, and hitting shots. Simply put, it differs at game speed as well. At-home speed and game speed are very different.”

After that, Woods shot 4-under through the first nine holes of his second round before finishing with a strong 2-under after three bogeys and another birdie. And it was at the beginning of his most recent round that Woods overcame hardship.

Woods might have been eliminated by two bogeys on holes one and two. Similar to his most recent attempt at a comeback, Woods demonstrated that he is far from done. In response, the 47-year-old made four birdies in the first nine holes alone. Though he was some 16 shots behind leader and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, he finished the day one under and is now level par for the competition.

When talking about his round, Woods expressed more satisfaction with his physical condition following his third straight round of 18 holes than he did with his sluggish play.

After missing the 18th hole with a bogey, Woods exclaimed, “I’m very excited at how I have felt physically.” “Removing a little rust. At home, we can always shake things off, but when it’s game time, things are very different. The speed at which you play differs from your home speed.

Insofar as I’ve come this far, it was kind of unknown that I would be able to shake off some of the rust as I have this week and prove to myself that I can heal every day. I’m thrilled with how this week has gone; I’ve completed all of my training, but when you include in playing, focus, adrenaline, and all those other things that speed up everything, it all goes much faster.

Woods’ supporters, who are hoping he makes a comeback in 2024, find encouragement in his positive outlook. The 15-time major winner stated that he would aim to compete in one tournament per month at most. Based on his remarks following his third round performance at the Hero World Challenge, this appears to be the case.
