Bubba Watson is in charge of the RangeGoats on the LIV Golf setup, and earlier this year the two-time Masters champion admitted he could give up his playing spot if his form did not improve
Bubba Watson will continue to represent the RangeGoats as a player on the LIV Golf setup, after their four-man roster was confirmed ahead of the 2024 campaign.
Watson cast doubt on his playing days on the breakaway league earlier this year, after struggling to find form. The American proved to be one of LIV’s biggest signings following his switch last summer, but has failed to replicate the form that saw him become a two-time Masters champion whilst on the PGA circuit.
In an open evaluation from August of last year, the 45-year-old acknowledged that he would be prepared to withdraw from competition if his RangeGoats teammates asked him to do so in order to help the 2023 LIV Golf runners-up.
He declared: “I told my team they could fire me and replace me with another talented golfer if they didn’t think I was good enough to play. I’m not leaving until I’m told to stop playing. I adore supporting the young men. Everybody is attempting to improve both personally and as a golfer.

The 2023 campaign saw the former Masters champion finish in 36th place, which was his team’s lowest finisher individually. Teammate Harold Varner III solidified an outstanding seventh-place finish, while Thomas Pieters finished just ahead in 33rd. Three outstanding victories in 2023 helped RangeGoats star Talor Gooch be named the breakaway league champion.
Watson’s spot on the breakaway league was secure despite finishing in the ‘open zone’ of the LIV setup because he was exempt from release as a team captain. Pieters was able to maintain his position because of his contract with the LIV league; Varner III and Gooch were able to do so because of their strong seasons.
The Stingers, Crushers, Majesticks, and RangeGoats are the other three teams that have completed their rosters for 2024. In addition, eight teams must fill ten additional spots before the breakaway league opens its first transfer window and holds a promotional event over the course of the following month.
One of the reasons Watson moved to LIV was the drama and intrigue that surround the offseason. The RangeGoats captain stated, “There is going to be so much [player] movement, that is the beauty of this league,” while making remarks at the Team Championship last month.
“The moving parts, free agency, and off-season. We abandoned ship and came over here because we believe that nobody better fits your team’s motto and mold. This is what we all enjoy watching in other sports.”
