The streaming service has now confirmed that stars from the PGA Tour and Formula 1 will compete in the Netflix Cup golf tournament in Las Vegas next week.
The pairings for Netflix’s upcoming golf tournament, which will feature Formula 1 drivers and celebrities from the PGA Tour, have been revealed.
The Netflix Cup, which takes place at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas on November 14, will be hosted by the streaming service. Stars from F1 and the golfing world will be paired together for the competition.
There are currently two Netflix series centered around each sport. The PGA Tour golfers’ behind-the-scenes activities are chronicled in “Full Swing,” a documentary series; another F1 driver-focused series is “Drive to Survive.”
It has now been confirmed that the first-ever Netflix Cup, which takes place next week, will feature four pairings. Four members of the PGA Tour will compete; each will be paired with an F1 driver.
Rickie Fowler will be playing with McLaren’s Lando Norris, while Justin Thomas will be paired with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz. Collin Morikawa will be paired with Pierre Gasley of Alpine, while Max Homa will be paired with Alex Albon of Williams.
Each of the four groups will play eight holes as part of the tournament format. Following that, the two teams with the lowest combined score will square off for one last hole, with the victorious team taking home the Netflix Cup title.
The competition, which is scheduled to start on Tuesday at 3 p.m. PT/11 p.m. GMT, will cap off a packed week of sports events in Las Vegas. The first Formula One race will be held in the Nevada city a few days later.
Recently, while getting ready for the Brazilian Grand Grix last week, Norris talked about the excitement surrounding the event. After finishing the race in second place behind winner Max Verstappen, Norris disclosed that he would be paired with Fowler.
Oh no! When asked if his golf preparations have been going well, Norris told reporters on November 2, via FIA, “I played yesterday here in Sao Paulo, but I’m feeling alright.”
“I’ve not been playing a lot of golf at all over the last few months, just for different reasons. So, I’ve kind of lost touch but I’ve tried to get back into it in the last few days, and I will continue to, before Vegas next week and before the event. So, I’m sure I’ll be alright – or at least get carried by my team-mate.
“I don’t know if I’m allowed or not. But sure, Rickie Fowler,” Norris added when asked who he would be paired with for the Netflix Cup. “A good guy. I watched all of the guys and Rickie is kind of a bit more back on form lately, comparing to where he was at the beginning of the year and last couple of years.
“I’m excited. It’s going to be the first live event for Netflix, which is a cool thing to be part of. Nice course and everything. And yeah, I don’t know, like how the whole event is going to work but I’m sure it’s going to be good, fun.”
