Rafael Nadal has expressed strong support for Jannik Sinner amid a doping controversy that led to the Italian receiving a 90-day suspension. Sinner tested positive twice for the banned steroid clostebol last year, but despite this, he avoided a ban earlier this year, sparking debate.
Nadal, speaking to Ubi Tennis, stated he firmly believes Sinner had no intention of cheating and that he would stake his life on Sinner’s innocence. He acknowledged the controversy surrounding such incidents but emphasized that they are harmful to both the athlete and the sport.
“He went through a very tough year, and that’s unfortunate. These situations are always damaging to tennis,” Nadal said. He added that while he completely trusts Sinner, he also places faith in the legal and anti-doping processes.
