Tiger Woods has announced the sad passing of his mother, Kultida. The golf icon will miss her immense influence deeply.
Tiger Woods has lost a huge influence in his life with the passing of his mother, Kultida. The legendary golfer announced her death on social media on Tuesday in a moving tribute.
The tragic news will no doubt come as a big blow to Woods, as the pair were known to have a close relationship. Kultida is often seen cheering on her son, and was on the 18th hole at Augusta when he won his 15th title in 2019.
She was also on hand for Woods’ emotional return to professional golf in 2022 after a car accident sidelined him for nearly two years. But the effect was much greater than simply supporting the fairway.
Woods’ affair shocked the sports world in 2009. The following year, Woods told ESPN that his mother and ex-wife Elin Nordegren were “cruel” to him when they found out the extent of his infidelity. “They’re the ones I hurt the most,” he said. “They are the two closest people in my life and telling them what I did was, quite frankly, very painful.”
She was reportedly upset by Woods’ actions, but according to CBS, Kultida, who stood next to Woods at the press conference, said, “I’m so proud of you.” Never feel alone. Mom is always with you and loves you.’” Kultida also encouraged him to embrace Buddhism to help him get through difficult times in life.
There are several theories as to why Woods wears his trademark red uniform on Sundays during tournaments. According to him, the credit for his iconic uniform goes to Kultida, who declared it his “power colour”.
“It’s back to my mother,” he told ESPN. “My mother says my power color is red. And so, in junior golf, I won a golf tournament wearing red. She said, “See, I told you so.” Red.’ So what should I do for the next tournament? I’ll wear blue. “OK. Then I won. Again, I told him, and I mored me myself. I pushed him a little. I think I lost two of the next three tournaments with blue, then I switched to red and my luck began to run. Well, I saved him.
Though he clearly supported his mother, he admitted he was scared of her. Woods told USA Today in 2017 that his father, Earl, who died in 2006, was a military man, but that his mother was more intimidating.
“My mother was an enforcer,” he said. “My father may have been in the Special Forces, but I was never afraid of him. My mother is still here and I’m still scared to death of her. She’s a very tough old lady, very demanding.
The 49-year-old announced his mother’s passing on social media, saying: “It is with deep sadness that I want to share with you that my beloved mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning.
“My mother was a force of nature in her own right and her spirit was undeniable. She was quick with a needle and had a laugh. She was my biggest fan and biggest supporter. Without her, none of my personal accomplishments would have been possible.
“She was loved by many people but especially her two grandsons, Sam and Charlie. I would like to thank everyone for their support, prayers and privacy during this difficult time for me and my family. I love you, mom.
