Amanda Balionis, like any television host, has had many awkward moments on air.
The Pittsburgh-born host has become one of the most respected figures in the field of sports broadcasting and golf in particular. Balionis, 39, joined CBS Sports in 2017 and has covered every Masters Tournament since 2018.
The journalist has also previously written for PGATour.com, furthering his passion for golf. Fulfilling many golf fans’ dreams, she has interviewed some of the game’s top players and witnessed some of the biggest matches and moments in recent years.
But there are some things Balionis would change if she could go back in time, and MirrorSport looks back at one situation that left her feeling uneasy. Casual golf fans and newcomers could watch a smooth interview between Balionis and Rory McIlroy without question, but after McIlroy won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, fans were suddenly reminded of unfounded rumors about an affair between Balionis and the PGA Tour star.
There was speculation that the Northern Ireland native and Mr Baryonis were soon to become a couple after he was reportedly spotted without his wedding ring at the time after the former player filed for divorce from wife Erica Stoll in May 2024. However, these statements were never confirmed.
On social media, fans grimaced at the exchange between McIlroy and Balionis, with many tweeting that it was “embarrassing.” In June 2024, McIlroy decided not to go ahead with his divorce from Stoll, and the pair have remained inseparable ever since. Meanwhile, Balionis is still happily married to football coach Bryn Renner.
Speaking about the interview that kept him up at night, Balionis reflected on his early days with PGATour.com during a Q&A session with Links Magazine. Shortly after joining the company, she had an exciting but difficult task to interview Tiger Woods legend.
By thinking about the incident, she said: “When I started with PGATOUR.com, I think the tiger was my second sedentary interview. I am very grateful that the angle of the camera is the size.
\”My legs were shaking uncontrollably with excitement. I lost a lot of sleep before this interview.\”
