Phil Taylor thought he had suffered an internal injury when Freddie Flyrtoff congratulated him in the sporting personality of the Bi -Bi year in 2010.

Taylor, 64, finished, taking second place in the legend dedicated to the races, AP McCoy, who has just trembled him in order to win a great citizen in his 15th attempt. The 16th world champion PDC darts did not lose, but many have won his 15th World Cup, reached the double Altim in the Premier League in nine years, and the other six others. This year’s main name was awarded in his historic campaign.

Flintoff, 47, was one of many who believed Taylor – the last darts star to be nominated for the award before Luke Littler this year – deserved more than the 10.33% of votes he received on the night.

Meanwhile, golf legend Ian Poulter was furious at his runner-up finish, claiming his pals Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell deserved more votes than ‘The Power’. Polter expressed unfortunate in social networks, but Frintof told Taylor that it was more worth it.

He almost left the dart masters that needed a trip to A & E. Recalling his interaction with the England cricket legend, Taylor said: “Freddie Flintoff (who presented him with the trophy) slapped me on the back and whispered, ‘You should have won it.’ I’m going to have to see a doctor because I think he’s got three broken ribs!

Luckily Taylor’s ribs were fine and he didn’t need to go to hospital after the BBC SPOTYs, but if anyone was left with an upset stomach after the awards show, it was Poulter. The 2008 US Open runner-up tweeted: “Second best darts in BBC Spoty poll, taking the lead.” BBC Spoty is a farce, sorry but there’s no way Graeme McDowell or Lee Westwood can’t win. GMac wins a major. Westie is number one in the world. This *****.”

Westwood finished fourth behind Jessica Ennis-Hill, who came third with 9.02% of the viewer vote, while McDowell had to settle for fifth place ahead of Tom Daley, Mark Cavendish, Amy Williams, Graham Swann and David Haye. Despite Poulter’s negative attitude, Taylor wasn’t going to let anyone ruin his mood.

He said, ‘I never thought I’d get second place.’ To be honest with you, I’m so overjoyed at my dad’s gravestone that I don’t care if I never win anything again. That’s the truth.’ “This is great for the sport because darts is often looked down upon. I’ve been brought up to another level. Darts has never been at this level before. “I’m not going to cry but it means a lot to me. I had another grandchild last week (my third) and it’s been a great week. If so, I thought it could penetrate the third.

\ “But as soon as Jess [Enise] was declared to be the third, I thought: But then the camera came, and I, a friend, said, “I think you got him Phil \”. \ “
