Mick Schumacher makes heartbreaking comment about dad Michael and skiing accident

In a new book, Mick Schumacher discusses his relationship with his father, Michael.

Mick Schumacher, the son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, has disclosed that he continues to follow his father’s advice. As a seven-time champion, he shares the all-time F1 record with Lewis Hamilton.

Details of Michael’s condition have been kept under wraps since he sustained life-altering injuries in a skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013.

Mick followed his dream of making it to Formula One without his father’s help, even though he was only 14 at the time of his father’s accident. After two seasons of racing with Haas, he joined Mercedes as a reserve driver from 2010 to 2012, the year his father returned from retirement to compete for the team.

Author Matt Whyman, who had unfettered access to the team, talks with Mick about his father’s influence in his new book “Inside Mercedes F1.”

He told Wyatt, “I was a crazy kid—I did everything my dad did.” “I began karting at the age of three. When I first went scuba diving, I was six years old. I was skydiving when I was ten. Racing was all I wanted to do because I loved it the most, and my dad was always very open to me trying anything I wanted to do.”

“He was a lot of fun and very encouraging, but he could also be difficult. I once gained a lot of time in a karting race by braking very late as I entered a corner. ‘Yes, but you should have braked like that in every corner!’ he said when I told him about it.

“He would ask, ‘Mick, would you rather go and play football with your friends?’ whenever he thought I wasn’t getting it. If so, none of this is necessary. “Okay, then let’s do it properly,” he said when I insisted that I wanted to race. I was improving, so we increased our European karting activities.

Mick had a clear advantage over his rivals as he rose through the ranks because one of the greatest motorsports icons was a big part of his upbringing.

Tragic events turned everything upside down; although his father is still a significant figure, his counsel and direction were limited following the incident. Mick remarked, “Then my dad had his accident,”

“I had to establish myself after I began racing in the Formula classes the following year.

However, both his coaching and his technical knowledge taught me a lot of things that I still use today. And I’ve always had a lot of resilience. I used to jump like on whenever I got hurt, and I still do that now.

Schumacher has been competing in hypercars in the World Endurance Championship with Alpine’s emerging team in addition to his duties with Mercedes.

He teamed up with French drivers Nicolas Lapierre and Matthieu Vaxiviere in the #36 car this season, and the team achieved an impressive first podium at the Six Hours of Fuji.

Despite this achievement, Schumacher’s hopes of returning to the Formula One grid have not yet come true, as the 2025 lineup is almost complete and he has not been given a spot.

Audi was considering him for a position at their Sauber team, but this week they announced that Brazilian Formula 2 leader Gabriel Bortoleto would be joining Nico Hulkenberg for the next season.
