George Russell health update as star taken to Mexican GP medical centre after nasty crash

During practice for the Mexican Grand Prix, George Russell was involved in a serious collision.

Following his involvement in a high-speed collision during FP2 of the Mexican Grand Prix, George Russell has confirmed that he is doing fine. After his large shunt early in the session, the 26-year-old was brought to the medical center for preventative examinations.

At Turn Nine, Russell lost his grip and spun into the barriers on the right side of the track after getting onto the kerb. He was taken away by medics right away after appearing to be in some discomfort as he got out of the car while holding his ribs.

In the event of a serious collision, he immediately went for a check-up, as is customary. After Russell returned to the garage after his visit to the medical center, Mercedes later declared that he was fine.

On social media, they posted: “Good news about George Russell. He is back with the team after being discharged from the medical facility.

After his mishap during qualifying for the US Grand Prix, Russell had two major crashes in as many weeks. In order to prepare his car for the race, which he had to start from the pit lane, his team worked diligently all night.

Speaking about his most recent incident in Mexico, Russell said he was fine but that after giving his mechanics another repair job, he was a little sore and frustrated.

He said to Sky Sports: “I’m all right. After that one, I’m a little exhausted. The car simply began to bounce on the ground, and before I could catch it, it was spinning. Again, the guys have a lot of work to do tonight.

“Right now, everything seems to be happening one after the other. It’s annoying because we were very strong and quick in FP1. For some reason, the thing just started going on me this time even though I tried cutting that corner and taking the same line.

“It wasn’t very useful in terms of what you would learn going into the race weekend because it was the Pirelli tire test. We obviously lost out on laps as a result. FP3 will be significant. All I can hope for is that we can fix the car.

Oscar Piastri finished FP2 almost two tenths behind the Spaniard in second place, with Carlos Sainz finishing as the fastest driver on the track. Max Verstappen missed the majority of the session because of an engine issue, while Yuki Tsunoda finished third, ahead of Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris.
