Max Verstappen speak out on “issues” amid longest winless run since 2020

Max Verstappen hasn’t won in his last five races for the first time since the 2020 season, and at the end of the Dutch Grand Prix, he was 23 seconds behind Lando Norris.

Max Verstappen, who is experiencing his worst run of form in four years, is anxious to maintain perspective.

His last run of five Grands Prix without a victory came in the 2020 season. But as McLaren keeps pushing home their advantage and he struggles with his Red Bull car, that is now his current situation.

Despite Lando Norris’s victory at Zandvoort last weekend, he still leads the Brit by a sizable margin in the drivers’ championship. Even though he leads by 70 points with nine races remaining, McLaren, who is now only 30 points behind, poses a far greater threat to his Red Bull team in the constructors’ standings.

When asked about the threat to his title defense, Verstappen remained composed despite acknowledging that his team has “issues” to address. The three-time Formula 1 champion remarked, “You can also look at it that way; some people have never won a race in their lives. I’ve had a lot of good years.”

“In my opinion, we don’t currently have the fastest car. We are working to find solutions to some of the problems we have. I have nothing more to say about it than that. We’re really focused on it, you know. There are still numerous races to be held on a variety of tracks. Simply put, this past weekend wasn’t our best one.”

To the delight of his fellow Dutchmen, Verstappen jumped out to an early lead in his home race. Despite his subpar start, Norris remained consistent throughout the Grand Prix and, after surpassing the leader of the championship, never looked back.

After finishing almost 23 seconds behind Norris, Verstappen said he never really had a chance to catch up to the British driver. But even with that big performance difference on a course where he had never lost before, the 26-year-old still won’t acknowledge being concerned.

He stated: “After he passed, I just concentrated on finishing my race and tried to place second. There was nothing that I could do.” Already, not all of the races have been very good. Thus, that was already, I believe, a little concerning. However, we are aware that we shouldn’t panic.”

For the Red Bull team, which has grown used to getting its own way in Formula One over the last few years, this is a new position. Christian Horner, the team’s principal, is aware of the danger his group faces, but he also understands that Red Bull can only focus on what they can control.

“You have to drive with the championship in mind,” he stated. This year’s race winners have come from seven different backgrounds. Thus, you must score the points if you are unable to win.”
