With the Women’s Open rapidly approaching, British golfer Charley Hull is pushing for the reinstatement of the Donald Trump-owned Trump Turnberry course on the women’s circuit.
The British golfer Charley Hull is eager to see the Trump Turnberry course, which is currently prohibited, reintroduced into the women’s British Open schedule.
Hull responded, “Yeah, I thought it was a great golf course.”
“I enjoy being outside on the golf course, and that course has amazing views. It was a ton of fun.
Hull, 28, has been honing his skills at Trump Turnberry this week in anticipation of a hectic August. Starting on Thursday, she will compete at the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open.A week later, she will travel to St. Andrews for the AIG Women’s Open.
Hull insisted, “A hundred percent,” in response to the question of whether it should make an Open return. It’s a really great track, so I think it’s unfortunate [that it’s not]. It’s among the greatest golf courses in the world, to be honest. Not being there would be unfortunate.
Hull recently completed her most prosperous season as a professional and has two LPGA Tour victories under her belt. She placed second in the Women’s British Open and US Women’s Open in 2023.
Despite having a slight slump this season, she still holds the 11th-place spot globally in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. This year, she has ranked as high as seventh.
Hull has participated in eleven events this year, making the cut in ten of them and finishing in the top ten three times.
Up until 2021, the Trump Turnberry course was a part of the Scottish Open rotation. However, the tour decided to remove it due to rioting in the American capital, which was sparked by then-President Trump.
“We will not return any of our championships there until we’re confident that any coverage at Turnberry would be about golf, about the golf course, and about the championship,” stated Martin Slumber, CEO of The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A), in a statement made last year.
Turnberry has played host to the Open four times, and it’s unlikely that it will host the event again anytime soon unless more well-known figures in the golf world, such as Hull, support it.
The second-oldest son of Donald Trump, Eric Trump, stated that “turnberry is considered to be, by far, the best course on the rota.” “It is what it is.” That’s what everyone will tell you.”
“There is absolutely nothing I can do if the decision turns out to be political, as it seems to be. I can create the best golf course on the planet. It is consistently ranked among the top five worldwide.”
It has consistently received top ratings. I am in control of that. It’s great that they want to participate in the tournament when it happens. We’ll be welcoming you there. Would love to take it on.
