Brandel Chamblee rips Jon Rahm’s Olympics ‘choke’

After an incredible collapse on Sunday at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, NBC golf commentator Brandel Chamblee spared no detail in his criticism of Jon Rahm’s performance.

With a four-stroke lead going into the last nine holes, Rahm was on his way to winning the gold medal. Rather, he staggered and shot a 39, eliminating himself from medal contention.

After the game, Chamblee declared, “I’m going to put that down as one of the biggest collapses, chokes of the year.” “Up there at the U.S. Open with Rory McIlroy.”

That ranks among the biggest blunders and chokes of the year, in my opinion. At the U.S. Open, right up there with Rory McIlroy. —Brandel at 9:39 on Jon Rahm’s back

Even though Chamblee’s statement is severe, it contains some truth. However, some fans have accused Chamblee of being unjust because of Rahm’s prominence in LIV Golf and his open contempt for the tour’s players.

Chamblee has previously encountered this kind of scrutiny. After LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau won the U.S. Open in June, supporters of Chamblee accused him of undervaluing DeChambeau’s work and, among other things, of blaming some of his success on favorable lies.

Hence, despite the fact that Chamblee’s assessment of Rahm’s demise on Sunday was accurate, a lot of fans still felt compelled to take issue with his anti-LIV prejudice.

How much is Brandel Chamblee against the guys from LIV? He just made a great effort to drill John Rahm and absolve Schauffle entirely of responsibility for the same collapse? OlympicTalk@NBCOlympicsChannel

He’s just relieved that Rahm lost, that’s all. A LIV player is good as long as he did not win.

He despises Rahm, and LIV anticipated WS’s arrival. This link: t.co/EvvHeIWCFe

WS was coming, and LIV knew it. He despises Rahm.
