Business over country?’ LIV Golf’s Greg Norman shocks fans with Olympic Golf message

Which would Greg Norman rather win the gold medal at the Olympics in Paris, Australia or LIV Golf?

Greg Norman made a big impression at Le Golf National for the Olympic Golf Tournament, but his most recent Instagram post really split fans’ opinions.

That’s because the seven LIV Golf players competing in Paris this week have the utmost support from LIV Golf CEO Norman, 69.

and not his own players in Australia.

Norman wrote exclusively for LIV Golf players on his most recent Instagram post, “Bring home the medals, boys.”

His native Australia’s Jason Day and Min Woo Lee, who both compete on the PGA Tour, received no mention.

But why exactly… is this a business trip?

The seven LIV Golf players competing at the 2024 Olympic Golf Competition?
Jon Rahm (Spain)
David Puig (Spain)
Joaquin Niemann (Chile)
Mito Pereira (Chile)
Carlos Ortiz (Mexico)
Abraham Ancer (Mexico)
Adrian Meronk (Poland)
Surely, it wouldn’t have upset too many people at LIV Golf HQ to provide an additional layer of support for his two countrymen who compete on the PGA Tour!

Would it, though?

Is Norman really hoping that one of his countrymen will lose to a LIV Golf pro in Sunday’s Olympic gold match?

Well, it would seem that way.

His message of support for Olympic golf made no mention of Day or Lee, which has angered a lot of fans.

Some golf enthusiasts have questioned how Norman can back “business over country” during the Olympics, but others, particularly ardent supporters of LIV Golf, believe it’s a reasonable decision.

During the opening round of the Olympics, the Australian posted a selfie of himself at Le Golf National on Instagram.

The caption for Norman said:

“Abrahamancer @paris2024 @olympics @legolfnational @jonrahm @joaco_niemann @davidpuigcorrius @adrian_meronk @mito_pereira @carlosortizgolf @abrahamancer @livgolf_league players” “Bring those medals home, boys!”

Fans had differing opinions about Norman’s post.

One said, “Supporting your own bank balance.”

“Country over business?” another person asked.

“Hey, why don’t you cheer for the Australians? Get over it, isn’t this your country?” an enraged fan yelled.

“What about JDay and Min Woo?” was written by another.

“I wish Australia had Cam Smith,” one fan remarked.

However, not all supporters were against Norman’s message of encouragement. One wrote, “Is there a more encouraging commissioner in the world? Well done, I doubt it.”

Norman told his Instagram followers he was watching the gymnastics one day prior to the opening round of the Olympic Golf Tournament.

With the following caption, Norman reaffirmed his support for LIV Golf players:

“Watching perfection on the floor before watching perfection with the boys of the @livgolf_league playing golf tomorrow at the Olympics in Paris, 2024.”

But Norman did post a video of himself on Wednesday during the swimming competitions, thanking the Australian team and the athletes for their hard work.

Of course, thanks for the invitation.

He uploaded a video and wrote,

“Training for years in preparation for this moment is the essence of sport. Strike more forcefully than others. Have a deeper belief than anybody else. These are extremely rare and infrequent occurrences. Many thanks to the #brisbane2032 @ausolympicteam.

Recently, Norman referred to the Olympics as “the pinnacle of sport.”

He continued, saying, “It’s about pushing boundaries, aiming for excellence, and proudly representing your nation.

“Our players are living examples of these principles, and I’m here to help them along the journey.”
