Shane Lowry rages at cameraman during furious outburst at The Open

At The Open’s second day, Shane Lowry lost his cool with a cameraman.

During a round of play on day two of The Open, Shane Lowry became enraged and lost his cool with a cameraman. Lowry had a great start, making three birdies in the first nine holes to move two shots clear of Daniel Brown at the top of the leaderboard.

When Lowry mishit the tee shot on the eleventh hole and found the long grass, things went south fast for him. In an attempt to play the ball onto the fairway, the 37-year-old pulled the ball too far to the left, causing his shot to land in the gorse.

After being left enraged, Lowry launched a foul-mouthed tirade at a nearby cameraman, saying, “As I was over the ball, I could just see you with the f*g camera up! Please just move aside. Simply return there. For heaven’s sake.

Lowry reloaded and called a provisional after it looked like the ball was lost, then he took another shot that was about 20 feet from the hole. But when a keen-eyed fan discovered his original ball, there was a long wait to find out if he would actually need to play it.

As he lined up where he would take his unplayable drop on the 12th hole, Lowry was spotted walking as far back as the fairway, prompting two rules officials to get involved.

You can declare a ball lost, but when it’s actually found, it’s the ball in play, according to R&A rules official Charlie Maran. He had to decide what to do with his original ball because the provisional ball he had played turned out to be incorrect.

Lowry eventually made his new fourth shot, which landed on the fringes of the eleventh green, at a distance of about 70 yards. After that, he made a double bogey and dropped his score from seven under par. He found the hole in two more shots.

A few holes later, the Northern Ireland man regained his solo lead despite looking clearly frustrated as he trudged off the green. When Brown, the unexpected leader at the end of the first round, missed a putt on his ninth hole of the day, Lowry took the lead.

It happened after Jordan Spieth cursed in frustration as he veered off course at the tenth hole, forcing Sky Sports commentators to issue an apology. After rallying to give himself a chance at par, he lost and then made a double bogey on the following hole, putting him at three over.
