Bernie Ecclestone, a close friend and former Formula 1 boss, is said to have told Christian Horner to resign as Red Bull team principal.
The head of Red Bull, who joined the team when they first entered the sport in 2005, is presently the focus of an internal investigation into claims of “inappropriate behavior,” as the De Telegraaf first revealed.
Horner “completely” refutes the accusations made against him, and he will continue to serve as Red Bull team principal while the investigation is underway and likely to take a while.
According to F1 Insider.com, Ecclestone has advised Horner to resign immediately in order to prevent further harm to his reputation.
From the late 1970s until 2017, Ecclestone, the former CEO of the Formula 1 Group, was involved in the day-to-day operations of the sport.
Horner investigation ongoing
It’s understood that Ecclestone is a friend of Horner’s and that he gave the Red Bull team principal some guidance on how to handle the circumstance.
But Horner has apparently promised to go on and won’t resign from his position as he continues to vehemently refute the accusations in response to this.
The investigation into Horner’s actions may extend until the first race in Bahrain, which would put the world champions’ title defense a little behind schedule. The new Formula One season is quickly approaching.
