Jon Rahm’s LIV Golf team has been confirmed ahead of the new season, which begins in Mayakoba, Mexico on Friday, when he will be joined by fellow Ryder Cup star Tyrrell Hatton and two surprise names
When the third season of the breakaway tour begins on Friday, Jon Rahm will serve as the captain of the recently established LIV Golf team Legion XIII.
Rahm will participate in his first tournament since agreeing to fork over an estimated £450 million to abandon the PGA Tour and take center stage as the new face of the Saudi Arabian league, which is well-funded. Greg Norman, the commissioner of LIV, had a busy offseason. In addition to Adrian Meronk, a multiple winner on the DP World Tour, and Rahm’s Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton, he also signed Rahm.
Hatton will join Rahm’s four-man Legion XIII roster, making them the team’s 13th opponent on the tour. The Englishman, who signed a £50 million contract, is anticipated to establish a solid rapport with Rahm, according to The Telegraph. Hatton, who is currently ranked 16th in the Official World Golf Ranking, and Rahm had a fantastic match play at the Ryder Cup in Rome last year.
Kieran Vincent from Zimbabwe and amateur sensation Caleb Surratt from the United States also make the squad. Vincent, 26, joined his older brother Scott on the tour after placing in the top three at the December LIV Golf Promotions event in Abu Dhabi.
Surratt, 19, is presently ranked 10th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and has been one of the top amateur players in the world in recent years. The sophomore from University of Tennessee won the SEC Freshman of the Year award in 2023. He has competed for the United States in the Walker Cup and Arnold Palmer Cup.
Rahm stated: “We are really proud of the team and brand we are developing. We’ve come a long way in a short amount of time. I knew I wanted to fight with a group of guys who completely matched the values of the team when we were creating the team’s brand.
“Tyrrell is not only my Ryder Cup teammate but also a fierce competitor and accomplished champion. One of the game’s brightest next-generation stars is Caleb. Furthermore, Kieran is a reliable, gifted ball striker who merited a promotion to LIV and is consistently improving.
In a succinct statement, Hatton confirmed his transfer to LIV. “I’m very excited for this next chapter, to connect with Legion XIII and Jon Rahm, and to get started this week in Mexico,” he declared.
Under the leadership of two-time major champion Rahm, Legion XIII is expected to challenge for the team title right away, according to LIV commissioner Norman.
As our league develops over time, Legion XIII’s launch is evidence of LIV Golf’s ongoing success, Norman continued. One of the best players in the world, Jon Rahm and his group will have an instant effect on the league on and off the golf course.
“I’m excited to welcome Kieran Vincent of LIV Golf Promotions, Ryder Cup winner Tyrrell Hatton, and young gun Caleb Surratt as his new teammates. They will all be fantastic additions to the league.” This is an exciting time for LIV Golf’s future development as well as the sport’s natural progression.
