EUROPEAN RYDER CUP CAPTAIN LUKE DONALD MAKES UNSURPRISING ANNOUNCEMENT

European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald has confirmed key stats man Edoardo Molinari will be one of the Englishman’s vice captains in the 2025 contest.

European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald has confirmed Edoardo Molinari will be one of his vice-captains at the contest next year.

The older brother of former Open champion Francesco, Edoardo, was regarded as a crucial player in Europe’s Cup comeback in Italy last September.

At the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Italy, Donald’s Europeans defeated them 16½ to 11½ in a match that was extremely captivating.

Known as the “stats guru,” the Italian, who goes by “Dodo,” was crucial in assisting Donald in forming each pairing.

In preparation for the 2023 Ryder Cup, Edoardo studied data for the better part of a year.

His own app, StatisticGolf, has been used by players like Matthew Fitzpatrick, the winner of the 2022 U.S. Open.

Because of how well-liked the program is, over thirty professionals from the PGA and DP World Tours currently use it.

“I worked on it every day for three months, [I spent] a lot of hours reading books and watching tutorials, because I thought it was important that whoever made it understands the game as well, otherwise you can fall into some traps or stupid ideas,” Edoardo said in an interview with The Times about the program.

In essence, the program lets each player focus on the smallest details of their match.

For instance, the show disclosed that Fitzpatrick, the player in question, frequently missed putts that were low.

On challenging courses, Viktor Hovland also seemed to be far too aggressive with his approach shots.

“My job is to make sure we don’t make any silly mistakes,” he continued, describing his role.

Luke will always have the last say, but you also need to follow your instincts. The numbers are just a guide.

“When you look at the numbers, it’s not the best possible route, but sometimes two personalities can work great together.”

With a post on X, Donald verified that Edoardo will resume his duties on January 23.

He wrote, “I’m happy to share this journey with you, Dodo. My chief strategist and stats guru is back.”

In response, the Italian said, “Thank you, captain. I’m looking forward to an exciting 20 months filled with many more talks, dinners, and practice rounds with you!”

Contrary to popular belief, Donald never actually appointed Edoardo.

Before the Swede lost his captaincy due to his decision to join LIV Golf, Henrik Stenson actually chose the stats guru for the position.

The 25th and 26th of September, 2025, will see Bethpage Black in New York host the Ryder Cup.

The identity of Donald’s American counterpart was unknown at the time of publication.

Following Tiger Woods’ disassociation from the position, it is anticipated that Stewart Cink or Fred Couples will assume the position.
