Lewis Hamilton makes eye-opening retirement comment after another tough season at Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton is entering the twilight years of his F1 career and questions regarding his retirement are not going away.

Lewis Hamilton has stated that he still loves to drive racing cars, but he has acknowledged that it’s possible that he will eventually retire from Formula One quickly. The seven-time world champion’s 39th birthday falls before the 2024 season begins.

Hamilton’s remarkable career has had some of its most difficult seasons to date, but in spite of his ongoing dissatisfaction with the uneven balance and performance of the W14, the legendary British driver has continued to deliver exceptional performances.

Despite the Silver Arrows’ inability to consistently produce a car that can contend for podium positions, Hamilton was still able to finish third in the Drivers’ Championship standings, besting teammates George Russell by 59 points and defeating Charles Leclerc, Fernando Alonso, and Lando Norris.

But it’s hard to deny that, at 38, Hamilton is approaching his professional twilight years. He did sign a new two-year contract earlier this season, but retirement will appear very likely if the current regulation period ends and Mercedes is no longer in the running to challenge Red Bull for the World Championship.

Hamilton acknowledged, “I can’t say,” when asked if he would suddenly retire from Formula One in an interview with The Race. Really, I have no idea. It might happen suddenly, and I just vanish from the face of the planet.

It is possible that I transition into a new role. Really, I have no idea. I still enjoy getting in and out of the car and driving. I still get the same smile on my face as the first day I drove when they start the car with all those people around you, the crew, and you go down the pitlane.

“Hopefully, it won’t happen on any given day, but if it does happen in particular, then maybe I’ll know. However, there will also come a time when I want to focus my energies on something else or spend some time in one location.

“At this time, I have no idea how to accomplish that. After a week in one place, I get restless and have to move, but who knows—maybe I’ll stay there after all?
