Perez makes Russell comparison over F1 criticism

Sergio Perez said he felt he received more criticism than other drivers due to his participation in Red Bull, citing George Russell’s mistake at the Singapore Grand Prix as evidence.

The Mexican has struggled to keep up with Max Verstappen in 2023 and has won just two races despite being in a car that clearly dominates the rest of the field.

Meanwhile, his teammate has 13 victories and is aiming for his third world championship title.

Perez also failed to reach the podium in 8/16 races this season.

He was the subject of much criticism from fans, pundits and even his own team, with Helmut Marko frequently commenting on his performances. Mercedes driver Russell squandered what looked like a podium finish at the Singapore GP after pushing too hard and crashing into the barrier on the final lap, a mistake that Russell himself admitted was his own. “beginner”.

And Perez now says he feels some of the criticism leveled at him is a bit unfair.

“We saw it with [George] Russell, the last race he crashed on the last lap coming in second and they don’t talk about it,” he said (via media Marca of Spain).

“It happens at Red Bull and you have three hundred media saying they have to remove you from your position.

“That’s also how team environments work, and I also think the fact that I’m Mexican is the main reason.”
